2024 media list lol

back to blog page

i started a thread on twitter about the media i've played, watched, read, or listened to throughout 2024. immediately after the first month i fucking hated how limited it felt to do it on twitter so here i am doing it here, cause i can just type as much as i want and nobody will be able to complain about it, ITS MY SITE.

anyways this will simply be divided up for each month. so here we go!!!

JANUARY

FACTORIO - 2nd victory

this game is still a fucking masterpiece in terms of gameplay, graphics, and just how well polished it is. for this playthrough i did a rail-world preset since i dont like dealing with biters a lot. it was a nice time, as i actually learned how to utilize robotics this time which REALLY helped with getting malls set up. I ultimately ended up only stopping after launching the first rocket. I don't feel like I have enough to actually consider expanding up to a megabase. maybe in a different run i will actually go for it.

heres a video of the victory rocket from this run

INSCRYPTION

i will forever be mad at myself for spoiling EVERYTHING in this game. mainly the main plot. this is a daniel mullens game, so its gonna be hard to talk about it without spoiling all the cool shit. simply put, this is a really good card game that is really easy to understand because of its simplicity, yet still has a lot of depth in how the different mechanics work together. i highly recommend this game, and for you to get it and play it with knowing as little as possible. it'll be worth it.

ENDLESS MONDAY: DREAMS AND DEADLINES

this is a really fun visual novel. i am a HUGE fan of hcnone's artwork and the characters theyve made, so it's really awesome to see them fully fleshed out in this game. the humor is great and i can relate with a lot of the main characters. and like to be expected, the game's visuals are fantastic. i cant get enough of it.

PORTAL REVOLUTION

a really awesome fan-made pre-sequel campaign. its difficulty really does feel like a natural evolution of portal 2, and a lot of its humor still manages to shine through in revolution, though my only gripe is how abrupt the ending is. it felt like it had a climax but didnt really have enough time for a falling action or whatever. i still recommend it for the fun puzzles though, its free too!

FINAL FANTASY XIV - specifically my thoughts on the jobs after getting lvl 50 on everything.

good fucking god getting this achievement took forever. it basically entails getting level 50 on every ARR job. it was a long grindy process but i had fun learning what each class did and i am willing to take it further, though it will have to be one expansion at a time. my favorite job would probably have to be black mage.

LETHAL COMPANY (after obtaining the boss rank)

this game is still a masterpiece in terms of co-op games. the horror has never worn itself out for me and its still fun to do the same gameplay loop with my friends. it's such a well designed game that just WORKS. its scary, funny, and fun all at the same time. you should absolutley play this game if you have friends.
after obtaining the boss rank, i have definitely come a long way in terms of how i play the game. even if you know what each enemy does and how to avoid them, its still scary to encounter a lot of them since they can kill you so so easily. god this game is so good.

DREAM'S END COME TRUE

a beautiful fan-comic for ultrakill that attempts to tie up the story of V2, featuring mirage from the lust layer's secret level. it's super well written, and the art itself is beautifully shaped. it feels like a true conclusion for v2 for those who just want to see her one more time before calling it farewell. it helps that hakita basiaclly said "yeah its canon if you want it to be." beautiful.

CELESTE 64

out of nowhere, the celeste team decided to put out a new game for celeste's 6th anniversary. its a 3d platformer, and its pretty good. its short and simple and controls nicely, the visuals are charming as hell with how IDDY BIDDY MY WIFE LOOKS AWWWWWW. my main complaint is that it can be weirdly difficult to control, and the challenge rooms are so weird. also not to mention that my fucking wife is confirmed to be in a canonical relationship when like, NO? IM HER WIFE FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

FEBRUARY

MEMORIALIZE PRIME - NOMINAL DINGUS

an absolute surprise from nominal, a full remake of memorialize, now with a dramatically different tone, instead of trying to hide his true intentions, it really feels like rewrite is telling you that he is not to be fucked around with. i enjoy how much more slower, and intense the song is compared to the first version, as it adds more intensity and unease, as rewrite should.

PLANTS VS ZOMBIES - replay

this was a favorite of mine when i was a wee lad, and it still is one of my top games. it's still very well made, and plays super smoothly. the charm of the game still holds up and is very replayable with just how easy it is to use any plants you want. highly recommend if you haven't played, it's easy to get into and none of the other games in this series can hold up to the original EVER.

SONIC.EXE: RERUN - SMOKES AND MIRROR

yes im putting fnf songs in this,

a surprise pre-release treat, this is the second song of rerun's main week, with girlfriend involved in a high speed chase with scrimbo. this song was an absolute banger, i suck at talking about music but the music has a great sense of urgency and speed. i really enjoy scrimbo's atonal vocals along with how very cute girlfriend's vocals are, not to mention her silly voice lines

REGRETEVATOR

god damn it i never thought i would fall into the roblox trap. i thought i was better than this. anyways this games pretty fun, it heavily reminds me of when i used to play the shit out of elevator source on gmod when i was younger. this game is basically that but you can actually do shit in it. there is a lot of fun minigames to play in it, and has a cast of memorable characters that can join your party. its just simple fun and i love it a lot.

AZUFUNKIN DEMO

a really short and simple fnf mod themed around azumanga daioh. its really charming in how it encapsulates the spirit of azumanga daioh. the songs are pretty good too, with TKBonklerz and Her Lullaby being big highlights for the mod, they're awesome. I wish for this mod to prosper and for v1 to be a banger.

FALTER ALTERS PRIME - NOMINAL DINGUS

i wasn't expecting this to come out so soon, but holy damn is it good. once again this is a remake of the original falter alters, the finale to the duology of nominal's take on rewrite songs. this version is a lot more fast paced, as there is fewer sections from the original (rewrite at the start, the part with two boyfriends), but it honestly helped the song and its pacing, and it feels like that each of rewrite's playthings get their proper screentime.
that is not to mention the latter half, focused entirely on rewrite, he feels more menacing in this version than the previous, and the vocals are INSANE. nominal has done a great job of making rewrite really sing his heart out, not to mention the catchy lyrics i cant help but sing-along to. overall this was a great song that puts a great spin on the original falter alters, and is in my opinion the definitive version of the song.

MY HORIZON RETAKE V2 - REVA

i dont know a lot about my horizon and why theres like, 5 million versions of it that makes it hard for me to tell which one is official, but this version of the song has quickly proven itself to be the definitive version of the song. it apparently is based off a version by honkish, which is why its so drastically different from the original my horizon. either way, this song has probably my favorite faker section in any exe related song. its upbeat, and catchy as hell. the rest of the song also does a great job, with a really neat instrumental. not much else to say but a very decent exe song that gets to go into my playlist.

MARCH

SUBTERFUGE - HONKISH

wow what a surprise to be met with for the start of march. the full upload of a song made for sonic legacy, featuring 2017x. this song was a fucking banger, it has such a slow, and gradual build up to the drop of the song and its beautiful. i just love how the song quickly goes from like, 25 to 100 so damn quickly, not to mention just how great the rest of the song is, with a dramatic finale to it all. overall the wait for this song was worth it.

SELF PACED (SCRAPPED) - NAYUKHROME (FT. CHECKTY731)

this was a sudden surprise from nayu, and its an absolute banger. it has a catchy melody, and has some good feeling of intensity. idk what else to say but this is just great overall.

SELF PACED (THE REAL ONE, TEASER) - REDSEAS (FT. DJ AWESOME)

while nayu may have left executable mania and his version of the song behind, redseas picked up the pieces and put together an incredible version of the song that makes me more excited for the mod. it has a new intro which helps with the pacing of the original song, and overall has a lot more energy behind the song. so far this is only a teaser for the full thing, a pretty generous teaser too! can't wait for the full release and to see what else redseas has cooked up.

VS. GOREFIELD V2

while i have never played the first version, this mod was absolutely excellent. the main week does an excellent job of mimicking the artstyle of lumpy touch's to fit more with fnf's artstyle. not to mention a lot of the music was great too, from bangers like the great judgement to bigotes. it's very consistent in its main content, and a lot of the bonuses are fun too. overall i highly recommend this mod if you want. there is a lot of fun to be had with it.
